A Journey Through Emilia-Romagna
A Dutch art historian had immersed herself in Emilia-Romagna and wanted to publish a travel guide. She needed a graphic designer to design and produce the book, as well as a photographer to capture all the photos on location.
"Emily's Romagna – A journey through the history and gastronomy of Emilia Romagna”
Dutch art historian and tour guide Emily de Klerk wanted help with design and photography for her book about the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna – a book that would depict historical personalities, culinary curiosities, and inspiring experiences in the area.
Based on her brief, I began creating the book at home before we travelled to Italy to take what would eventually become 2,000 photos.
In a tiny Fiat 500, we spent a week travelling between mountain villages and churches in Ravenna, Bologna, Rimini, and Ferrara. We were given private tours of shady old castle alleys, photographed dishes on the ground, and looked for elderly ladies on rusty bicycles. We chatted passionately in Italian with everyone we met.
In 2014, the book finally became a reality. It is a lovely publication in a handy format, with captivating stories and mesmerising pictures. Years later, it still sells like hotcakes among enthusiastic Dutch travellers to the region. My dream is to translate it into Swedish one day!
